Rock Otočec was first staged in 1976 as a one-day festival. The first great musician on Rock Otočec was Vlado Kreslin, which later often returned on its big stage.
The next one happened in 1983 and was already a two-day event.
The festival had died down for a while, until 1997, when it was revived by Franci Kek and Marjan Pirnar. Tadej Kapš also participated in organizing the ’97 festival. With years his role had increased to the point, that he and Franci Kek are today the heart and mind behind Rock Otočec.
